In some ways I can’t believe it’s been that long, in others it feels like we’ve been married much longer.
I thought I’d share a little recap of how Seth and I met and how we’ve gotten to where we are now. Sorry ahead of time for it being long!
I met Seth at a conference in Oklahoma, he was 17, I was 16. We didn’t really talk that time, just became acquaintances.
The following summer, he came up to detassle corn – a job we Iowans did throughout our teen years for some summer cash. There were many things that impressed me about Seth that summer: he would read his Bible every morning on the bus, once he cleaned up throw up (that was not his own) on the buss willingly without complaining, he was a hard worker, and he always had a good attitude.
The next summer he came up again. We got to know each other more and there was some definite chemistry going on (which neither of us would acknowledge to the other).
My sophmore year of college, we met up at a winter retreat and finally decided to make it official.

He proposed almost two years later and we were married May 20, 2006. Our wedding was wonderful, I was on cloud nine the entire day.

We spent 10 days in Hawaii, an unforgettable honeymoon.

After about two weeks of settling in to our new home in Tulsa I started to feel sick, I didn’t think much of it, but thought I’d better take a pregnancy test to be sure. We were completely shocked at the results – I was pregnant! This was not the way we envisioned it happening, but as we talked about it we became very excited at the reality, we were going to have a baby!
A few weeks later I had my first ultrasound, we saw the flicker of the heartbeat and we were amazed, this was really happening, there was a living being in me.
My next ultrasound we had so looked forward to, we were going to find out if we were having a boy or a girl. At the ultrasound, the technician seemed very serious, taking lots of measurements, she called the doctor in to take a look. He sent us over to the hospital saying that the placenta looked funny and he wanted to have a specialist see me. We weren’t able to find out what we were having right then, our little guy was much too active.

At the hospital, things started to crumble. The specialist didn’t know what was wrong, but didn’t offer much hope either. I continued to worsen and they encouraged us to start thinking about names. I asked about the odds of survival and my doctor said it was about 1 in a million. Seth and I cried our hearts out, begging the Lord to spare our son. I was in labor and measuring full term because of all the fluid in me. A c-section would be done the next morning. We decided we would name our son Samuel since we were dedicating his life to the Lord no matter what happened.
The next months were hard, but the Lord brought us comfort and peace and drew us closer together through our loss. Seth was such an encouragement to me, he always reminded me of where our son was and that our weeping was for us, not him.
Eleven months later we found out we were pregnant again. There were a few scares with this pregnancy and we were left with nothing but to lean on our Master and again commit our little one to Him. This time the Lord allowed us to have this child here with us at. Our little Landon has brought so much joy to our lives. We are truly grateful for such a faithful, loving Lord.

The verse that comes to my head as I write this all out is, “Weeping my last for a moment, but a shout of joy comes in the morning.”
This has been a wonderful two years with my amazing husband, Seth, and I look forward to many more.
